St. Peter's Summer Sessions 2012

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays: July 2 - August 30

Monday evenings 7-9 pm: Weekly Square Dance Session

At the United Church Hall on Grenville St. Come out and join Roddie's Square Dance Society any Monday evening in July and August, for a classic St. Peter's Square Dance session. Local dance enthusiasts have kept alive the traditions and steps made popular in the 40,s, 50's and 60's by caller Roddie MacKenzie. They'll be happy to teach you the 4-figure sets that are unique to St. Peter's, and give you an energetic work out to practice them. Live fiddle, guitar and/ or keyboards at every dance, with our exceptionally talented local players.

Neat steps and square patterns, every Monday all summer.

Tuesday evenings 7-9 pm: Weekly Jam Session on Stage

Be sure to join us on Tuesday nights at 7 pm at the Macbouch Restaurant and Lounge. Musical hosts will kick off the show and welcome any entertainers who want to join in on stage. Everyone gets a chance to play, sometimes it keeps us going after 9, but we'll make sure not to keep you up too late. Whether you play drums, sing, dance or just like to clap your hands, this is a night for you. Full menu available until 7 pm, pizza until 9 pm daily, always with a staff that is happy to serve you. Great food and the best of local entertainment at Macbouch!

Al, Russell, Joey and Junior are some of the regulars appearing Tuesday nights at Macbouch.

Wednesday evenings 6-8 pm: Weekly Interactive Trivia Night

At the MacAskill House Museum

Weekly Ceilidh (7-9pm) and Jam Session (9-11 pm), Thursday evenings

Weekly Ceilidh (7-9pm) and Jam Session (9-11 pm), Thursday evenings Every Thursday night this summer, join us for a down-home Ceilidh (i.e. the original Celtic form of a kitchen racket), at the Bras d'Or Lakes Inn. Downstairs at this fine waterfront resort, you'll find the Sessions Lounge alive with traditional tunes, songs and dance, presented by our most talented local performers. They can range from age 8 to 80 - as does the audience (actually, we've had players and dancers older and younger than that! But you get the idea - it's good for all ages). The Ceilidh starts at 7 pm and goes until 9; after that, we welcome players and listeners to an Open Jam session - where musicians and singers at all levels are invited to join an acoustic session with local players. Over the past few years our weekly summer Ceilidhs have become a popular event with visitors - and a regular stop for local musicians who love to share the Cape Breton traditions with our guests. Admission to the Ceilidh is $8, with special family pricing - all ages welcome. Admission to the jam session is free (must be over 19 yrs of age). Bras d'Or Lakes Inn offers stay-over packages, and a very tempting dinner menu in conjunction with reserved seating at the Ceilidhs.
