Many country music artists learned their trade directly from rural black musicians and adapted their style to forge what became known as white country blues. To name a few examples, Jimmie Rodgers, Gene Autry, and Hank Williams, each one of them highly influential country singers, performed music that often owed as much to blues as to country. This show explores various facets of these two related genres of music.
A few words about the show from Ryan Cook:
"We had this idea to put together a show where we could sing & talk about some of our favorite Country and Blues songs, including of course -some of the ones we wrote too! We got the name from one of my favorite Hank Williams songs which is fitting because so much of Hank’s life & music was a correlation to the blues. It’s hard to even listen to Hank Williams era Country/Western music without thinking of the blues as the differences are so subtle. Some folks have refered to traditional Country/Western music as “The white man’s blues”…"
$20 advance tickets. Limited seating. Age 19+. Cash bar.
Saturday December 15. Concert at 7:30 pm. Jam continues afterwards until midnight.
